This website was set up in the absence of any systematic availability of information on being a tenant in Malta.
I am a Maltese national. In 1989, I left Malta to live in the UK. Four years ago I returned to Malta with my family. Malta has much to offer anyone choosing to live here. Amazing weather, iconic landscapes, a relaxed, outdoors lifestyle, a great environment to bring up children... Malta has recently celebrated its 50th anniversary of being independent. In these years, much has been achieved in terms of creating a healthy, vibrant society. However, it cannot be denied that there is plenty more still to be done. The letting market, for one, leaves much to be desired. There is absolutely no regulation of this important market. The regulation there is tends to be confused and, often clashes with EU law. People from all over the world come to live in Malta. Most tenants are in fact non Maltese, with most Maltese nationals being homeowners. However, there is a growing trend of Maltese nationals also turning to renting instead of buying. This website will hopefully alert prospective tenants to potential pitfalls, of which there are several. Enjoy! And please bear with me as I also evolve in my website developing skills!
